Busy weekend

We had a busy weekend with Tyler's baseball game and an engagement party on Saturday and friends over for a bar-b-que on Sunday.  This is right up Alex's alley because he has been a busy boy for the past couple of months.  He is so busy running everywhere and wanting to play outside.  He is ALL boy!  He is also very busy talking.  He wakes up talking to himself and his animals in his bed...he talks as he falls asleep for his nap and when its time to go to sleep at night.  Our new bedtime routine involves telling all the animals on the walls and people in picture frames goodnight.  Yesterday morning he was naming everything he saw from the bedroom to the kitchen and then from the kitchen to the bedroom.  Life is just so busy!

Watching Tyler play baseball

Enjoying his firetruck and popsicle.  He loves squirting us with his firehouse.

Alex eating his popsicle...he is also getting his second round of molars.

Saturday Alex and I went to Old Navy for what I expected to be a quick shopping experience.  Well, lets just say that the trip lasted about an hour and a half.  There was a great sale going on so there were lots of people.  Alex did a fairly good job hanging out in the shopping cart for the entire time.  About 40 minutes into the trip he looked at me and said "poo poo" with a red face.  Oh boy, I didn't have a diaper or wipes with me so I quickly finished trying on clothes and headed for the check out line...which was about 15 people deep.  I have to say that it was moving fast but not fast enough for me.  Alex spotted some balls near the check out line so he was somewhat entertained but losing patience quickly.  I spotted a soft spiky ball that lights up when it bounces.  I was entertaining Alex with it when we were waiting for the next clerk to check us out.  I looked around and couldn't find the ball.  I thought he probably dropped it so wasn't concerned.  We check out and get to the car...then I realized I had put the ball in my purse! Without paying for it!  I was panicked that the people in line saw me do this and thought I was a shoplifter.  I didn't know what to do so I ran back inside Old Navy and found a manager behind the counter.  I told them that we accidentally left with it without paying for it.  The ladies were really nice and laughed it off.  I'm still so embarrassed by it!  Oh well, all is fine.

Alex's Spring 2012 School Pic Preview

Alex's school has a really good photographer who takes the kids photos twice a year. She always adds a Sneak Peek Preview on her Facebook page for the parents before all the pictures are uploaded to her website for us to see. It's like the night before Christmas, waiting for the preview picture to be uploaded. This year, I sent a sweet little outfit with Alex...a pink polo style shirt with blue/white seersucker shorts and white belt. I can hardly wait to see all of his pictures! Yes, you can see the "Akin" in this boy!

Baby Stroller

We went to a friend's house this weekend and Alex found their little girl's baby doll stroller. He pushed it around all day and when he wasn't pushing it, he was riding in it!

Curls?

I picked up Alex from school yesterday and was very surprised...my little boy had curls surrounding his head. The longer hair on the sides and back of his head had curled in the humid weather. I was shocked! I tried to get pictures of it and they aren't very good, but you can see some of them.

I recently put together a fire truck one of Bill's friends gave Alex for his birthday (last July). It took me a while because Alex didn't want to wait for the wheels to go on. He climbed in as soon as I took the shell of the truck out. He has yet to figure out how to go forward on little bikes...he only gear is reverse at this point in time.

What a fun weekend!

Alex and I went to visit Grammie and Paw Paw this weekend in Houston. We had a lot of fun!

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo has started and Alex insisted on wearing Paw Paw's old cowboy hat to fit in. He was pretty cute running around the conference table at the office. He knew he looked good and was putting on an act for us...which we loved.

Saturday morning Grammie, Alex and I particiapted in the Strides 4 Stroke 5k at Rice University. I started with the runners and ran just under two miles when I saw Grammie and Alex. I ran off course to join them for the rest of the walk. Alex did a wonderful job and enjoyed pointing out and listening to birds and watching the world go by. The last half mile of the walk he was pretty entertained by the stroller canopy. I pulled it down in front of him because it was a pretty chilly and windy morning and I was trying to block some of the wind. He thought it was pretty funny to press his face against the plastic window as we passed people. I got a short video of this when he did this on the way back from the park that afternoon. (I will try to download it.)

Later that day, we went to the park. It was too pretty not to be outside. When Alex wasn't swinging, he was running up and down the hill. Who hasn't spent hours running up and down the hill at Godwin Park? He stopped long enough to pick a flower for Grammie but kept on going. Alex was go, go, go! He was so spent, he even took an extra 30 minute nap that afternoon.

Alex is such a sweet boy right now. He would run up to Paw Paw and Grammie with his arms open for a hug and a kiss. He couldn't get enough of them! I also had a great time with them. This was a much overdue trip to Houston!! (Sorry, for some reason I didn't get any pictures of Alex with Paw Paw.)

Its been a long time...

Sorry, things have been boring for us lately. I've had pneumonia (the reason for not true update lately) and am finally starting to feel better. I was supposed to run in The Cowtown Half Marathon yesterday but was told by my doctor to pass on it this year. Instead of run/walking 13.1 miles, Alex and I knocked out 1.52 miles. I made him a grill cheese, a sippy cup and we hit the pavement. Alex loves going for runs/walks in his stroller. Sometimes its a struggle getting him in it but once we are moving, he calms down and talks the entire time.

He smiles whenever he hears birds singing and also notes when he hears a plane. When he says "bird" it sounds like "bir" and plane sounds like "pain". We are also trying to teach him to say "thank you" and "please". Please sounds like "peeeeessseee" Oh, how I love when he is a talkative baby. In the morning he talks to himself. He just blabbers away! It is crazy how quickly he is changing.

After our walk on Saturday morning.
