He Is Here!

Alexander Neal King arrived on Sunday July 18th @ 1:29 pm.
I woke up thinking that it was going to be another day of hanging around the house and running a few last minute errands.  Around 8 I decided to pick up around the house.  At 8:30 am while I was putting the dishes away, I noticed a trickle that kept coming...I realized that my water broke.  Bill was surprisingly up and I told him the news.  He asked if he had time for a really quick shower, which I replied "of course, I'm taking one once your done."  Since I wasn't having contractions yet, we took our time then drove to the hospital.  We arrived at the hospital and was admitted around 9:45 am.  Around 10:20 they verified that my water did brake but I was only 3 cm dilated.  After being on the monitors for about 30 minutes, they told me I could walk the floor and let gravity help out.  Bill and I made about 3 rounds around the second floor atrium.  We were interrupted with strong contractions and I decided that it was time to go back to the room.  I told Bill that I didn't think I was going to be able to have a natural birth because the contractions were really strong.  He got our nurse who started talking about different options for pain relief.  Once she checked my progress, she said that there wasn't time for any medicine that I was at 10 cm dilated and that they had to call the doctor.  Needless to say, things started moving really fast and nurses were in and out of the room in a hurry.  I had the need to push but was told that I couldn't push until the doctor arrived.  My doctor wasn't on call so another doctor from the practice was going to be delivering our baby...she was fabulous.  I'm not sure how long it took for her to arrive but after an hour of pushing, Alex arrived.  Bill was fabulous and fanned me with a cool wash cloth for probably 1 1/2 hours AND he cut the umbilical cord.  He did everything he was supposed to do to help out with the delivery.  He was very encouraging and I couldn't have asked for more!

I'm totally amazed at what our bodies are made to do.  I've always thought my sister was a little crazy telling me that after having a natural labor and delivery, that you forget the pain.  Well, now I can verify that I must have jumped on the crazy train.  If I had it to do over again, I wouldn't have changed a thing.  I enjoyed my 5 hours of labor and delivery with the two loves of my life...my husband and son.

38 weeks, 4 days

So, had another appointment with the doctor and not much to report.
Just barely 3 cm but still 75-80% effaced and -2/-1 station. Basically, I'm going to stay at the stage until the real deal begins. Could be any day...could be in two weeks.

Baby Moving

Here's another video of Baby from June 21st...he was pretty active on this evening.

Baby Click

Turn the volume up and you can hear Baby Boy "click" his feet! This was on June 21st; 34 weeks along. The click happens around second 28. I thought I was going crazy every time I heard this "click". Finally I called my sister Lindsay to see if she could ever hear Jack or Ivy before they were born. She told me that Ivy made a similar noise...maybe we are both crazy!

week 38

We are 13 days away from our July 25th due date. Of course, the count down is on, but Baby Boy King will come when he is ready. May be fewer then 13 days, may be more. Who knows.

This past Thursday we had our weekly appointment and I'm glad to say that things were about the same as the week before. Just over 2 cm dilated, still 75-80% effaced and baby hasn't dropped yet. The ultrasound proved that we are still having a boy, thank goodness since I know that I would panic a little bit having to go out and buy girly items at this late stage. Baby Boy King is looking good & healthy and weighing in at about 6.3 lbs. However, ultrasounds give an estimate and baby can be 1/2 lb heavier or lighter. I think I prefer him to cook a little longer so he can fatten up a bit.

Our next appointment is Thursday morning so we will see if we are any closer to meeting this little guy.

Yesterday I painted one more wall in the nursery the pale auqa to match the other walls and cleaned out the closet. The donation trucks are making the rounds this morning so it was time to get rid of lots of old clothes that Bill and I haven't worn the past two years. I also cleaned our back bedroom that became the storage room. There were boxes from when we moved in to the house two years ago plus lots of other items collecting dust. Our porch is now covered with items getting donated to The Arc and I hope they take every little bit of it. Needless to say, I think I "nested" this weekend and another step closer to meeting baby.

We made it to week 37. Baby is now full term!
This past Friday the doctor informed me to get my bags packed for the hospital and to install the car seat. I am 2 cm dilated and 75-80% effaced already. He thinks baby will come 7 to 8 days early. SO, baby should be here sooner than we expected. Now, I can't wait for our next appointment on Thursday to see if things have progressed. Plus, we will have one more sonogram to make sure baby is head down.

I'm starting to worry about the when & where I will be when realize that I need to go to the hospital and how far away Bill will be. Getting anxious!
